On May, 28 2025 a meeting was held at the headquarters of Sonatrach, with Mr. David Wilhelm, Chairman of USABC & President and CEO of the American company Hecate Global Renewable Energy, and Mr. Alp Topçuoğlu, Member of the Board of Directors of Tosyali Iron and Steel Algeria.

The discussions were held on an ambitious and integrated project aimed at producing green hydrogen from renewable energy sources for use in the production of “green steel”.

This project feasibility study, will be undertaken by selected international consulting firm in the field of Renewables and green H2 production.

As a reminder, the one year Memorandum of Understanding with Sonatrach signed with HGR Energy, dated April 29, 2024, for the production of renewable energy in Algeria, while the one year Memorandum of Understanding signed with Sonatrach by Tosyali is dated July 24, 2024 for the supply of Hydrogen from renewable energy sources.

A new memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed between Sonatrach, Sonelgaz,HGR Energy, and Tosyali, by June 24 enabling the launch of this integrated project in two phases. The first phase will be allocated to assessing the project’s feasibility, suitability, and profitability, while the second phase will be to develop the project through an SPV, enabling Tosyali to produce green steel out of Green H2 produced by HGR Energy & Sonatrach.
